International applicants are defined as those who currently hold or are seeking an F1 visa or other non-immigrant visa category authorized to engage in full-time or part-time academic studies. U.S. citizens, U.S. dual citizenship, lawful permanent residents (LPR), pending LPR (with approval notice), DACA, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), political asylees, refugees, or undocumented individuals, should apply as a domestic applicant.

International Applicants must complete UNC Greensboro’s online application for their student type and fulfill any additional requirements outlined below for Undergraduate or Graduate admissions. In addition applicants will need to submit the following to UNC Greensboro:

  • Submit $65 application fee.
  • Official English language proficiency score report.
  • Copy of valid passport (photo/signature page only).
  • Official transcripts from each college/university attended (View the requirements below based on your student type to see if transcripts are required).

In addition to meeting Undergraduate Application Requirements, international applicants should have:

  • Freshmen: GPA 2.5 minimum on 4.0 U.S or equivalent scale (weighted, U.S. high school only).
  • Transfer: GPA 2.0 minimum on 4.0 U.S. or equivalent scale.

Some majors have additional admission criteria and specific deadlines. Check program requirements here.

Freshman applicants are also subject to meeting UNCG and North Carolina state’s U.S. high school equivalency minimum course guidelines.

For transfer students coming from a U.S. institution, copy of valid F1 visa (photo/signature page only), or copy of other valid visa types (ex: H4, E2, L2) is required.

For freshman applicants and transfer applicants with less than 24 credit hours:

  • Official secondary education/high school transcripts or GED certificate, in English.
  • Official SAT or ACT scores – Optional for graduates of U.S. high schools. Optional for graduates of non-U.S. high schools/academies.

For U.S. transcripts, please follow the normal protocol from your institution when ordering official transcripts. For Undergraduate Admissions, the International Recruitment and Admissions Office accepts stamped copies of high school transcripts from U.S. community colleges.

Students with non-U.S. transcripts for their current or prior college/university are required to submit a course-by-course evaluation report with the application. Freshmen with current or prior secondary education transcripts are also required to submit a course-by-course evaluation report, but for the following exceptions below.

You do not need the report if you have any of the following: IB Diploma or IB Track, Standard XII Certificate or equivalent (India only), School Leaving Certificate & Mark Sheets for all exams (Nepal only), a GCSE/IGCSE Statement of Results, or a WASSCE/WAEC score report.  All non-U.S. secondary education credentials, whether externally or in-house evaluated, must meet U.S. high school diploma equivalency.

The purpose of the credential evaluation report is to authenticate your academic credentials and ensure course credit and U.S. grade equivalency are completed accurately.  This also eliminates the need to obtain official, translated transcripts from your school(s) to be sent to UNCG.

UNCG accepts academic evaluation reports from any of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services® (NACES) members or the Association of International Credential Evaluators® (AICE) endorsed member, Scholaro, Inc.
